Story By The Daily Bharat Express (Digital-Desk): Two people stormed the Lok Sabha with gas-emitting objects on Wednesday, triggering major scare in the Lower House when it was in session.
Dramatic TV footage showed one of the unidentified persons jumping over the benches that seat lawmakers. As per the Reports, two people have been taken into custody.
According to preliminary probe, tear-gas canisters were found in the shoes of one of the suspects. Apart from the accused, who was nabbed inside the Parliament, a woman and man were also taken into custody while they were protesting outside the Parliament in front of Transport Bhawan.
The incident comes on the 22nd anniversary of the deadly 2001 parliament attack. A police source later told CNN-News18 that the incident was not linked to the Parliament attack.
And days ago, Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu had released a video threatening to attack the new Parliament building on December 13 in response to a failed murder plot to against him.
“One person was seen leaping over the benches of the Lok Sabha while another was seen dangling from the public gallery spraying some tear gas, when Zero Hour was in progress,” said Lop Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.
“This is certainly a security breach because today we observed the death anniversary of people, who sacrificed their lives in the 2001 (Parliament attack),” Chowdhury added.
BJP member Rajendra Agrawal, who was in the chair, adjourned the proceedings till 2 pm.
In a post on X, Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi said: “Saw two young men unleash foul smelling yellow coloured gas from canisters inside Parliament gallery. MPs rushed to grab these men. One person was raising some slogans. This raises serious questions on another aspect of the new Parliament building- security.”
Three-tier Security at Parliament:
There is a three-tier security in Parliament with one at entry gate that includes metal detectors and hand-held metal detector frisking. The same drill is repeated at entry gate of Parliament building.
Security is also present at the corridor that leads to various visitor galleries. At these spots, visitors are not allowed to carry mobile phone.
